Instagram does not let a public account fully hide its follower list. Option 1: Go private (hides the list)
A private account is the only built-in way to hide your follower list from strangers. When you are private, someone has to send a follow request and be approved before they can see your posts, your followers, or who you follow.
- Open Instagram and tap your profile picture (bottom right).
- Tap the menu (three lines) in the top right, then Settings and activity.
- Tap Account privacy.
- Turn on Private account and confirm.
Note the honest limit: people who already follow you stay approved and can still see your follower list. Going private controls new viewers, not the ones you have already let in. If there is a specific person you do not want seeing your list, remove or block them separately.
Option 2: Hide the follower count (Business / Creator)
